A new chapter begins

First, I would like to give a special “thank you!” to each and every one of you who have supported my campaign during these challenging and out-of-the-ordinary days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While I did not prevail in this election, the most important thing that happened on Tuesday is that the citizens of Ferndale have had the opportunity to vote.  In doing that, our community members who voted have also expressed a larger commitment: to our freedom to interact with and participate in our government, to our ongoing freedom to choose, to our freedom to express our viewpoints, and to invest ourselves in the affairs of the community of which we are a part.

These freedoms also oblige us to inform ourselves, as we participate in the governing of our city, our county, our state, and our country. Factors and conditions may evolve, but It is our active and informed participation that strengthens our democratic form of government. Our way of life rests on the will and efforts of all in the community. In this spirit, I urge all of you to stay involved, in oversight and in service, in whatever way opens to you, and I pledge to do the same.

We have a shared history, built upon generations of people with the courage and commitment to seek and defend a better way of life. We honor the sacrifices of those who have gone before by realizing that we too must strive to make this a better world for all of us.

Today’s disappointments will best be overcome by our ongoing commitment to serving our city and and community members, and to making Ferndale the best city we can envision.
